The Great Eskape is a Coffee Outside in DC that runs every other week from March through November. Typically, the ride kicks off on Friday mornings around 7 a.m., but this was a special Saturday edition and the last official Coffee Outside of 2024.
The group meets in Georgetown at the Key Bridge Boathouse, right at the entrance of the Capital Crescent Trail, a popular meeting spot that also hosts the TBD Ride and was the same trail I took to the Ride For Your Life starting point. No complaints here though, as the trail is absolutely gorgeous!
Rolling up on my cargo bike always feels like a gamble for group rides, considering pace and route accessibility. When a bunch of riders showed up on fast bikes, fully kitted up, I’ll admit I felt a little nervous. >_< But the route was a chill 3.5-mile stretch along the trail, mostly paved and even the rougher sections near the end were manageable for most bikes.. After coffee, some the folks planned to peel off for some gravel riding, but the group pace for the coffee was super inclusive.
We ended near the Alexandria Aqueduct ruins, a perfect spot for coffee with gorgeous views and a true escape from the city vibe. Some folks claimed this was the original Coffee Outside, dating back to 2015. Is that true? I'd love to know!

I always love a solid Coffee Outside, especially one that includes a ride. If you’re in the DC area during the riding season, I highly recommend checking this out. The route is beautiful and accessible, the vibe is welcoming, and it’s always great to share fresh coffee and stories with new friends in nature.
