“Something good happens on Monday”

Ok, so this group was amazing! Bike Monday Bros started as a small group of friends looking to escape the stress of Monday Zoom meetings and relive the joy of riding bicycles they experienced as kids. While the group’s name might suggest otherwise, it’s open to all genders. Over several years, the group grew gradually. When George Floyd was murdered, they hosted a Unity Ride with the goal of bringing people together from all walks of life through bicycles. During this ride, they stopped at Black-owned businesses for food and drinks. It was a huge success, drawing over 300 attendees, which inspired the group to establish a social media presence, officially forming Bike Monday Bros.

Since then the ride has steadily grown, now averaging just under 100 riders each Monday. The ride is a loop at a slower, social pace and puts a strong emphasis on creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone. There are several rules in place that are strictly enforced to ensure all riders feel safe and welcome. Some of these rules include “two wheels down,” which was implemented to discourage “wheelie boys,” and “no broadcast music,” a rule I personally love. This rule creates a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere, encouraging conversation among riders. These rules and others are all about fostering a relaxed, communal vibe where everyone can make friends. If someone challenges these rules, they're asked to comply or not attend.

I felt a ton of love from this crowd, so many people were excited to learn about my journey, and the ride leaders really supported me, even giving me a short spotlight with the group. As I travel the country, I keep learning just how incredible the bike community can be. Places like Richmond, much like Little Rock, might not come to mind first when you think of bike communities, but they’ve got it, and they’ve got it good.

The Official Pink Tag Review:
5 out of 5 Pink Tags!

This ride comes with my highest recommendation. Built on a foundation of community, this casually paced ride is a safe and inclusive space for all riders. With a code of ethics designed to ensure safety and strictly enforced, you can trust your ride leaders and have a great time on a Monday night!
